Dear TIRF Colleagues and Friends,

I am pleased to announce that TIRF has several open and upcoming calls for nominations and applications for several exciting opportunities. We encourage all eligible individuals to participate and take advantage of these programs.

1. DDG (Doctoral Dissertation Grants): TIRF is offering grants to support doctoral dissertation research in the field of English language education. These grants provide financial assistance to promising researchers who are in the process of completing their doctoral dissertations. If you are a doctoral candidate conducting research related to English language education, we highly encourage you to apply for a DDG. The deadline for proposals is Wednesday, May 15th.

2. TIRF Kathleen M. Bailey Teacher-Research Award (TIRF Bailey Award): The TIRF Bailey Award is meant to recognize Dr. Bailey’s research, her lifelong commitment to teaching, and her desire to support and encourage research carried out by practicing English language teachers, as well as honor her commitment to TIRF. The award is designed to encourage, support, and recognize research conducted by teachers. It also serves as a vehicle for the creation of new knowledge about language teaching and learning as well as the development of research skills for both new and experienced teachers. The deadline to apply is Thursday, June 20th.

3. The TIRF James E. Alatis Prize for Research in Language Policy and Planning in Educational Contexts (TIRF Alatis Prize): The TIRF Alatis Prize honors the contributions that TIRF Trustee Emeritus James E. Alatis made to the field as an outstanding educator and leader. A prize of $500 will be awarded for an article or chapter published in English and dealing with some aspect of language policy or planning in educational contexts. Submissions may be articles published in scholarly peer-reviewed journals or peer-reviewed chapters in edited books. The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 4th.

4. TIRF-British Council Research Mentoring Awards (RMAs): TIRF has partnered with the British Council to offer a research mentoring program that aims to provide mentorship and support to early-career researchers in the field of English language education. If you are an early-career researcher seeking guidance and mentorship, we encourage you to apply for this program. The proposal window is open until Sunday, June 30th.

These opportunities are designed to foster research, recognize excellence, and support the professional development of individuals in the field of English language education. We believe these programs will contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the improvement of English language teaching worldwide.
