We are pleased to share with our supporters that former TIRF Trustee Dr. Patricia (“Patsy”) Duff has been inducted as a Fellow into the Royal Society of Canada in the Academy of Social Sciences.
According to the University of British Columbia, Dr. Duff “has been elected by her peers in recognition of her outstanding scholarly achievements.” The notice adds that she is “a Distinguished University Scholar and an internationally recognised leader in applied linguistics and multilingual education. Her award-winning scholarship, which includes case study research methods, Chinese language learning and academic English discourse socialisation, has catalysed new lines of research in diverse geopolitical, disciplinary, and ethnolinguistic contexts.”
This important award recognizes “individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts, humanities, sciences, and Canadian public life. This prestigious accolade is awarded to those distinguished in their fields, underscoring Dr. Duff’s exceptional impact and leadership in academia.”
In addition to her research, Patsy serves on numerous well-regarded national and international adjudication committees, including the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Spencer Foundation/National Academy of Education (USA), and the Hong Kong Research Grants Council. Patsy served as one of TIRF’s early Trustees, during which time she was the Chair of the Foundation’s Research Advisory Committee.
“We are delighted to learn that Patsy has been honored in this way,” said TIRF Trustee, Kathi Bailey. “She has been a stalwart supporter of TIRF for over 20 years, both as a Trustee and as a continuing supporter. In 2001, she participated in a small invitational gathering convened to establish TIRF’s initial research priorities. Her most recent service was in helping to launch the TIRF Russell N. Campbell Endowment Campaign in support of our Doctoral Dissertation Grantees.”
Please join the TIRF community in congratulating Patsy on her wonderful achievement!
