Partner Update: ETS TOEFL® Grant

Editor’s note: In this piece, we share information from ETS, regarding a current grant opportunity for doctoral research in language assessment.

ETS is delighted to announce the call for applications for the 2026 TOEFL® Grant for Doctoral Research in Language Assessment. The grant is designed to support Ph.D. candidates whose dissertation research centers on the topic of foreign or second language assessment.

Purpose

This grant’s purpose is to support the timely completion of dissertation research that advances knowledge in the field of language assessment

Award Value

The value and number of the awards follows below:

  • The grant funds up to $3,000 (payable in U.S. dollars only).
  • Up to five awards will be made.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are those who are currently enrolled in a doctoral program and have completed all the coursework and candidacy requirements. They also must have their dissertation proposal formally approved by the committee. Research may focus on any language, but the application materials must be written in English.

Important Dates

  • December 15, 2025 at 11:59 pm— Deadline for receipt of all application materials
  • February 2, 2026 —Award notification
