TIRF is pleased to announce the re-election of Dr. JoAnn (Jodi) Crandall and Mr. Michael Carrier, as well as the election of Dr. Joyce Kling, to its Board of Trustees. Jodi and Michael will each continue their service with an additional three-year term, while Joyce returns to the Board after a brief hiatus.

Dr. Joyce Kling, a valued former Trustee previously stepped away from TIRF’s Board during her tenure as TESOL International Association’s President. We are delighted to welcome her back to TIRF in this capacity, as she continues to contribute her expertise and leadership for at least the next three years.

About the Trustees

JoAnn (Jodi) Crandall
Dr. JoAnn (Jodi) Crandall is Professor Emerita of Education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where she co-founded and directed the MA TESOL Program and the interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Language, Literacy, and Culture. She has also served as the Director of the ERIC Clearinghouse on Languages and Linguistics. Jodi’s work spans English language policy, teacher education, content-based language instruction, and literacy development. She has published widely and worked on projects across the globe. She has held leadership positions in TESOL, the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL), and other professional organizations.

Michael Carrier
Michael Carrier has extensive experience in language education, publishing, and edtech. He has held leadership roles at Cambridge University Press, Pearson, and the British Council. His expertise covers teacher development, technology-enhanced learning, and digital innovation in language education. Michael has served on multiple advisory boards and contributed significantly to research and best practices in ELT. He is actively involved in international organizations, helping shape the future of language education worldwide.

Joyce Kling
Dr. Joyce Kling is an Associate Professor at Lund University in Sweden and an expert in English-medium instruction (EMI), teacher cognition, and assessment. She has worked extensively with professional development initiatives for university faculty engaged in EMI and has played a leading role in global discussions on language education. As a past President of TESOL International Association, Joyce has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field. Her research and advocacy continue to influence language education policies and practices worldwide.
