The competition for the 2023 TIRF James E. Alatis Prize for Research in Language Policy and Planning in Educational Contexts is currently open. The deadline for nominations is just a few days away.

For the 2023 competition, a prize of $500 will be awarded for an article or chapter published in English and dealing with some aspect of language policy and/or planning in educational contexts. We invite nominations of outstanding articles or chapters that were published during the calendar years of 2021 or 2022.

New to this year’s competition is a short section of “exclusions” on TIRF’s website that individuals will want to consider when deciding whether to nominate a paper for the Alatis Prize. These additional details will help clarify what types of papers cannot be nominated for the Prize.

2023 marks the seventh year of TIRF offering the Alatis Prize competition. The Foundation’s Trustees opened the first competition in 2015 to honor Dr. Jim Alatis, one of TIRF’s founders. He and his family supported TIRF for many years and he was recognized as a Trustee Emeritus of the Foundation for his service.
