Dr. Suzanne Panferov Reese

Editor’s note: We are excited to update our supporters about recent recognition TIRF Vice President Suzanne Panferov Reese received from the University of Arizona, where she is Professor in the College of Humanities. The original story appeared on the University of Arizona’s website.

We are pleased to share that TIRF Vice President Dr. Suzanne Panferov Reese, a long-standing leader in second language education at the University of Arizona, has been awarded the institution’s Graduate Teaching and Mentoring Award. This honor highlights the kind of mentorship and professional development that TIRF’s supporters know are essential for advancing English language education worldwide.

Over her career, Suzanne has supervised and supported numerous doctoral candidates, guiding them through dissertations and exams, and into professional roles. Importantly, she continues to mentor her students long after graduation, offering career advice and maintaining networks that strengthen the field. One international student shared, “Dr. Panferov Reese provided me with valuable advice on task management and morale-boosting support, without which I might not have persevered.”

Reflecting on the award, Suzanne noted, “Connecting with people is so important. It’s the core work that we do in the Humanities … May we all continue to connect in these wildly dynamic times.” Her recognition underscores a message central to TIRF’s mission: investing in people — researchers, educators, and mentors — has a lasting impact on English language education across borders. Please join the TIRF community in congratulating Suzanne on this well-deserved recognition!
