As we reported in our March and July issues of TIRF Today, the Foundation is establishing The Russell N. Campbell Endowment to support TIRF’s Doctoral Dissertation Grant (DDG) Program. Each year, the author of the highest rated DDG proposal is named as the Russell N. Campbell honoree. This tradition was established in 2006, when Steven Talmy was chosen as the first recipient. In making a donation to the new fund, Steven wrote, “The DDG played a huge role in my career and I want to give back.”
The TIRF working group focused on this initiative (Donna Christian, Ryan Damerow, and Kathi Bailey), following guidelines from the TIRF Finance Committee, set a goal of raising $25,000 by the time of our September 2023 Board meeting.
As of this publication, the donations total $ $17,604.97, which means we are 70% of the way toward meeting our initial goal of $25,000 by TIRF’s Board of Trustees meeting on September 15th. These gifts came from a total of 29 individuals, including friends, colleagues, and former students of Russ. The plan is to raise a second $25,000 before the March 2024 meeting of the Board.
Contributions can be made in the category of “Friends of Russ” (gifts under $5,000) or as “Founding Donors” (donations of $5,000 or more). Payments can also be spread over a multi-year period as pledges.

We are also happy to accept checks drawn on U.S. banks. They can be made out to TIRF with “Russ Campbell Fund” written in the memo line. The mailing address is TIRF, PO Box 332, Interlochen, MI 49643-0332.
Please consider donating to this fund, so that we can not only honor a TIRF founding Trustee, but also ensure the DDG program in perpetuity. As always, many thanks for your support!
