The end of the calendar year typically marks an exciting time for TIRF, as we have a tradition of opening the next year’s Doctoral Dissertation Grants (DDG) competition. We are pleased to announce that we are once again able to offer our DDGs in 2017.

The Foundation’s DDG program is designed to provide awards for doctoral students nearing the completion of their studies. TIRF recently released its 2017 DDG call for proposals (CFP) on its website. Please click here to read the 2017 DDG CFP.

There are two types of DDGs offered by TIRF in 2017. The first is our long-standing TIRF-Cambridge DDG, which is supported by Cambridge English Language Assessment and many of our individual donors. The other type is the TIRF-British Council DDG, which is supported by the British Council and is aimed at promoting research to better meet the needs of language education in developing nations.

DDGs are provided in the amount of up to US $5,000 per award. The deadline for receipt of complete proposals is Wednesday, April 26, 2017. For more information, please visit us online or write to [email protected].

Since 2002, TIRF has supported students completing their doctoral research on topics related to the Foundation’s research priorities. The Foundation has made awards to 95 individuals from over 20 countries during the 15 years the program has been offered. Each year, applicants who have been advanced to candidacy in legitimate PhD or EdD programs are invited to submit proposals for funding. Proposals are reviewed by a TIRF committee of established international researchers. Each year, the highest rated DDG proposal is awarded in the name of the late Dr. Russell N. Campbell, who was one of TIRF’s founding Trustees.
